Here, in the Antipodes, modesty is a virtue feverishly pursued by my generation, Generation X. Less voluntary than forced, breaches in the school yard would lead to calls of “Ya stuck up cow” or “Think ya too good do ya?”. Yet, when I observe Millennials, I see a different approach. Sure, in true Australian form, they still cringe if one of their peers is overly showy but when it comes to putting a hand up and gracefully accepting accolades for a job-well-done, we can learn a thing or two from these young folk.
